Starboard Ventures LLC announced today that it has named Dr. Roger Werne and Darin Mason to its Board of Advisors.
Dr. Werne brings to Starboard Ventures extensive experience in the areas of technology commercialization and strategic partnering and will advise Starboard Ventures on matters within his vast expertise.
Dr. Werne currently serves as Chief Technologist for Industrial Partnerships and Commercialization at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. He started and led LLNL’s industrial partnering program in the late 1980s while he was the laboratory’s Associate Director of Engineering and Technology Transfer. LLNL’s engineering organization was comprised of approximately 2,500 people and supported all LLNL laboratory programs, including nuclear weapons nonproliferation, advanced conventional defense, inertial confinement and magnetic fusion, energy research, and biotechnology. In 1995 he co-founded ITI Medical Technologies, a medical device start-up company focused on the field of MRI-guided surgery, a new minimally invasive surgical paradigm. In 1999 he rejoined LLNL as Chief Engineer for the NAI/Homeland Security Directorate, charged with the mission of countering the proliferation and use of weapons of mass destruction against the United States. Dr. Werne received his Ph.D. in Structures and Solid Mechanics from the University of California at Berkeley.
“I am impressed by Starboard Ventures’s vision for the commercialization of technologies originated in Russia and Eurasia,” said Werne. “Starboard Ventures has devised and follows an intelligent approach to creating sustainable companies using cooperation between American management and Russian technologies, and I look forward to helping the company achieve additional successes.”
Darin Mason will advise Starboard Ventures on issues related to intellectual property protection and knowledge management.
Mr. Mason is the Chief Information Officer of Power Integrations, the leading supplier of high-voltage analog integrated circuits used in power conversion. Previously he served as Director of Worldwide IT for Genesis Microchip Inc., the world’s leading supplier of display image processors for consumer video and DVD products, LCD TVs, HDTVs, Digital TVs and LCD monitors.
“Darin Mason’s experience in knowledge management and instituting best practices for maximizing the value of IP will help Starboard Ventures maximize the potential of the emerging companies that Starboard Ventures and its partners are developing,” said Daniel Considine, president of Starboard Ventures.
